UK CAR INJURY CLAIM ADVICE

Our solicitors will represent the injured victim of a negligent driver in a car injury claim on a no win no fee basis. If the other driver has been identified then compensation is always paid in full. No win no fee claims handled by UK Lawyers are genuinely risk free.

YOUNG DRIVERS

One third of deaths amongst car drivers are those aged between 17 and 25 :-

  • They tend to take more risks than an older driver.
  • They are more hostile towards other drivers.
  • Many young male drivers regard the car as a status symbol rather than a means of transport.
  • They do not take weather conditions into account when deciding at what speed to travel.
  • Many risky driving manoeuvres performed by young male drivers result not only from lack of driving skill but also from inappropriate driving attitudes.
  • The driving performance of some young male drivers depends on the type of passenger. For example, girlfriends, parents and adults in the car results in slower, safer driving. Male friends of their group seem to encourage faster, more reckless behaviour.
  • Young males still figure highly in the number of drivers who flout the drink driving laws.
  • A young driver almost always believes their driving ability is 'above average' and that they will never be responsible for a car injury claim. In fact this is the case with most drivers of any age but older drivers have more experience and can use that to get out of trouble.

Many Local Authorities organize and run 'Pre Driver Training' or 'Young Driver Education' courses in schools and Sixth Form Colleges in co-operation with the police in an attempt to reduce the incidence of the accidents that will result in a car injury claim. Many also involve the Ambulance Service, the Probation Service, Local Magistrates and DSA Driving Examiners. These courses can sometimes cover a wide range of subjects from excessive speed and drinking and driving to what look for when buying a car. Driving Standards Agency (DSA) examiners discuss the driving test and the wider issues of safer driving. But the main aim of the courses is to instil a positive attitude into the students before they start their lessons in a car. Detail of the courses will vary from area to area so ask your Local Authority Road Safety Officer if they run any such courses in your area.

If you passed your test after 1 June 1997 and if you held nothing but a provisional licence prior to that, special rules will apply. If the number of points on your licence reaches six or more within two years of passing the test (This includes any offences you committed before passing the test) your licence will be revoked. You must then revert to learner status and abide by all the provisional licence regulations until you pass a theory and practical driving test.
