MOTOR BIKE ACCIDENT COMPENSATION CLAIM

Our solicitors will represent the injured victim in a motor bike accident compensation claim on a no win no fee basis. If the other driver has been identified then compensation is paid in full and no win no fee claims handled by our lawyers are genuinely risk free.

UK MOTORCYCLE LICENCE OPTIONS

With effect from 1.1.1997 there were two main classifications of UK Full Motorcycle Driving Licences :-

    Category A1
Light Motorcycle Licence :- A light motorcycle licence which restricts riders to any bike up to 125cc and a power output of 11kW. The practical test must be taken on a bike of between 75cc and 125cc.

    Category A
Standard Motorcycle Licence :- A standard motorcycle licence is obtained if the practical test is taken on a bike of over 120cc but not more than 125cc and capable of at least 100km per hour. After passing the standard motorcycle practical test you will be restricted for two years to riding a bike of up to 25kW and a power weight ratio not exceeding 0.16W/kg. It is hoped that these restrictions will reduce the incidence of motor bike accident compensation claim settlements by easing drivers gently into more powerful motorcycles.

Riders over the age of 21, or those who reach 21 before their 2 year restriction ends, have other options :-

    Direct Access
This option is open to learner riders aged 21 and over. The practical test must be taken on a motorcycle with a power output of no less than 35kW (46.6bhp).

    Accelerated Access
This option is exactly as above but is the route taken by the holders of power restricted Full Category A licences who are aged 21 or over or reach 21 before the two year restriction ends and wish to move up to a more powerful machine. You may practice on bikes over 25kW and will return to learner status and restrictions whilst training and testing on the larger bike, but a test fail will not affect your previous licence status. These restrictions are again designed with safety in mind aand to reduce the number of motor bike accident compensation claim incidents. Whilst training on the larger bike you must comply with the following :-

    • You must be accompanied at all times by an approved instructor on another bike.
    • You must be in radio contact with the instructor.
    • You must observe the provisional licence restrictions, L-Plates, no pillion passengers, no motorway riding.
    • If you are unsure which test is suitable for you, ask the chief instructor at your Approved Training Body for advice.
